A Morning Walk to Friars Crag

There are few places that capture the beauty of Keswick quite like Friars Crag. Just a 15-minute walk from Goodwin House, this peaceful viewpoint extends out into Derwentwater and offers panoramic views across the lake to the surrounding fells. It is named Friars Crag, as it is said it was the launch point for monks making a pilgrimage to St Herberts Island.

Whether you visit at sunrise, when the water is perfectly still, or later in the day as the light changes across the mountains, every visit feels different. It’s a wonderful place to pause, watch the wildlife, and simply enjoy the tranquillity of the Lake District.

One of the benefits of staying at Goodwin House is that you don’t need to drive to experience places like this. Simply leave the front door, stroll past Hope Park, Theatre by the Lake and along the lakeshore, and within minutes you’ll find yourself at one of the National Park’s most photographed viewpoints.
